
Kentucky Derby Hopefuls in Southwest Stakes
Today is President’s Day in the USA and most of the major tracks are running. Oaklawn Park holds the Southwest Stakes and its split into two divisions with a total of 21 three year olds starting. Each division has a Purse of $250,000.00 and is loaded with stars all on the Kentucky Derby Trail.
The Jerry Hollendorfer trained Longview Drive is the morning line favorite in the 1st division at 5-2. Martin Garcia has made the trip from Santa Anita to ride the son of Pulpit in the mile event.
Secret Circle trained by Bob Baffert is the even money choice in the 2nd division and has Raphael Bejarano in the tack. Secret Circle has won 3 of 4 lifetime starts and his only defeat came on January 7th at Santa Anita where he finished second to Out of Bounds going a flat mile in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes.

British Columbia Horse Racing Management Committee meets this week
The BCHRMC meets this week and main topic for discussion on the agenda is a 5 year plan to revitalize horse racing in the Province of British Columbia. Under the guidance of newly appointed chairman Doug Scott the committee will look at all aspects of the racing industry and attempt to move us forward in the future.
